Thanks for all your responses to my last post! You are a wise bunch of women; I love learning from you all! :)
Today I have something a little different for you. I know nearly all of my readers (at least, all the ones who post comments! ;)) are women, and many women looove to take relationship quizzes and the like.
Well, I just came across the following in an article I'm reading for my Marriage Counseling class and thought some of y'all might find it interesting/want to take it. (Also helpful if you're in a dating relationship and wondering what to look for, if you have what it takes as a couple to make a marriage work.) John Gottman, who designed this quiz, is a psychologist who's done tons of groundbreaking research on couples to find out what makes marriages work (to the extent that he can predict with more than 90% accuracy--within something like 20 minutes--whether a couple is likely to make it or divorce!).
Know Your Spouse
Answer true or false for each statement:
1. I can name my partner's best friends.
2. I can tell you what stresses my partner is currently facing.
3. I know the names of some of the people who have been irritating my partner lately.
4. I can tell you some of my partner's life dreams.
5. I can tell you about my partner's basic philosophy of life.
6. I can list the relatives my partner likes the least.
7. I feel that my partner knows me pretty well.
8. When we are apart, I often think fondly of my partner.
9. I often touch or kiss my partner affectionately.
10. My partner really respects me.
11. There is fire and passion in this relationship.
12. Romance is definitely still a part of our relationship.
13. My partner appreciates the things I do in this relationship.
14. My partner generally likes my personality.
15. Our sex life is mostly satisfying.
16. At the end of the day my partner is glad to see me.
17. My partner is one of my best friends.
18. We just love talking to each other.
19. There is lots of give and take (both people have influence) in our discussions.
20. My partner listens respectfully, even when we disagree.
21. My partner is usually a great help as a problem solver.
22. We generally mesh well on basic values and goals in life.
Scoring: Give yourself one point for each "true" answer. Above 12: You have a lot of strength in your relationship. Congratulations. Below 12: Your relationship could stand some improvement and could probably benefit from some work on the basics, such as improving communication.
EDITED TO ADD: If you could add just 2 questions to this quiz to add any spiritual/Scriptural components of a healthy marriage that you feel are missing, what would they be?

I got a 21:)
The only no was on #21. Well, and he usually is. But often times I end up rolling my eyes and saying sheesh, let me go call a girlfriend and get a real answer.
I strongly believe that God intended us to keep our girlfriends to compensate for the male lack of, um, estrogen driven problem solving that we all require. And I think most husbands are happy to hand over those reigns!
I thought this was great and the one thing I would add would be do you and your partner pray together. I think that is very important in a relationship because we all know that a marriage that has Christ in the center is a marriage that stays together.
That is an interesting quiz but I can see why it is what it is. Those are all important things.
I think questions like-Do you regularly pray together or share prayer requests?
Do you attend church together?
Much love girl!
ANg
Oh geeze! it's after 1 a.m. right now but I am SOOOO coming back later tomorrow after I get home to do this quiz!
How fun!
You rock girl!
This is good!
And the questions I would add have already been added. :D
20 yay!
2 I would add
1. we pray daily together
2. we seek the Lord in our decisions
Someday, I hope to have a significant other about whom I can answer these questions.
So how did you and TJ do?
I think I would be scared to be evaluated by Mr. (Dr?) Gottman. Is he able to help the people headed for divorce or is it just a lost cause (kinda like Desmond and the freaky-deaky jewelry store woman). "That's an interesting choice of footwear"
Hope: Yes, I hope and pray for you to have an amazing SO! TJ and I get a 22. Well, in my estimation, anyway. ;)
And yes, Gottman's able to help people who seem to be headed for divorce (or "at least" a miserable marriage). :) So am I now, by the grace of God!
Someday I should post about his Four Horsemen of the (Marital) Apocalypse: criticism, contempt, defensiveness and stonewalling.
A 22! Wow! That sounds about right, but I'm still very impressed.
